This month we are learning about people who have changed the world in one way or another. We are learning about those students who participated in peaceful sit-ins for 7 months in Greensboro at the Woolworth’s lunch counter. We are learning about Harry Houdini and his passion for magic and illusion. We will be learning about Washington and Lincoln, two men whose legacies transcend the White House. We will be investigating African American inventors like Garrett Morgan who changed the world with their inventions. These are people who saw a way to make the world better; and, despite all odds, they took the risk.
How can you make the world a better place this month?
What are you going to do about it?

I could make the world a better place this month by not letting people litter or fight ! Convince all the students that they are going to pass E.O.G!That is how i plan to make the world a better place this month!
The things I am going to do is change t he gas prices, lower
gas prices, change the economy, and raise checks. That is what I would do.

The things I am going to do to change are start recycling trash and help stop globle warming. I am also going to try to stop useing harmful chemicals.
The way im going to chang the world is to not litter.
I would lower economy rates, and gas prices.Make dogs have lower prices to $2.00.make people have at least 2 dogs.Make foods have sugar and spice mostly spice.Make dogs popularity rise majorly, and make everything cheaper.
I could make the world a better this year by telling people don’t liter, pick up the trash, help special needed people get around, and help people everywhere that needs help ,care for all the teachers +the childrens parents.
The 2 things i would do to change the world are 1. to recycle eveything I use. 2. I would make people not hurt anyone ore any thing
I won’t litter. I also will pick up trash off the ground . I will recycle cans and plastick and other things. I will help teachers and students if they need help.
I can make the world a better place by picking up soda cans, recycling, helping students with homework activities, and by telling people not to cut down trees, because that is our air,and we need to breath. What am going to do about it is do every thing I just said, and more.

the first five things i would do to change the world would be 1. make sure no one would litter 2. not let bad guys steal,hurt or kidnapp anybody 3. let there be no schools on Friday and Monday but on Tuesday and Wednesday we would have Mrs. Hines on Tuesday but on Wednesday we would have Mrs. Warwick 4. On every friday of every week we would go to school for one hour have an ice cream party and watch a movie with it 5. we would have a very happy day everyday no yelling , no stress , no work and no fuss if you like that thanks cause someday it will happen {i think}
I would help charities for cancer medicenes . I would send food cans for the honmeless . Also , I well do work for people who can’t help themself .
How I can make the world a better is by picking up trash.
I can recycle cans and other things like sticks.
I can insted of wasting food I can save it or give to homelees people.
I will make no more wars.
If I had to make the world a better place I will make sure everybody is tert fair.
You guys are off to a great start. Next we are going to work on an action plan. What can we do as a class to help meet these goals? How can we support one another?
Is there one project that we might be able to do as a class that would meet many of our objectives?
oooooo….I love your answers. The world would certainly be a better place if all of those changes were made.
Now I have got something for you Leading Learners. Anyone can say they want to change the world. Everyone can probably name one specific thing they would change. Saying what has to be changed is easy. Actually getting off your butt (can I say butt) and doing it is very hard.
So my question for you is what would you have to change about yourself in order to change the world?
Sorry for butting into the conversation. A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post for my kids and had a similar conversation that you and Mrs. Hines are having. We wrote about this post:

They wrote some of my favorite posts of the entire year!
Malcolm Gladwell wrote a book titled, The Tipping Point. The premise of the book is that if we all do a little the big thing will naturally take place. Your class should be proud, because you are doing the little thing. Keep it up!

Great suggestions for making the world a better place. They say it only take a month to make something a habit so I like the fact that the question states what are you going to do this month. I do a lot of what was suggested like not littering and so forth. I think what I can do this month to make the world a better place is to be more mindful of the words that I say. Sometimes I get frustrated and I turn into a person saying words I don’t want to say, which makes me cringe inside. By being more mindful this whole month I hope to make it a habit by the end of the month.

To help make the world a better place I would recycle. In 4th grade there is a can drive. I want to collect the most cans to give to the homeless people.
One way i would change the world.1 i would help people with cancer.2 i would send food to the homeless.3 i would give children money for the homeless.4 i would make gas prices lower!
Your students have such wonderful ideas. We are starting small by doing extra little things for extended families and our communities. We started a voicethread if your students would like to add what they are actually doing to the thread. We write it to President Obama.

What great ideas you have for making a difference! Thank you for sharing them. If everyone tried to do a little bit I’m sure we would all see a difference. As Mr Bogush says it’s important that we think about what we need to change about ourselves so that we can take action and not just talk about it.
You have some very interesting topics of discussion on your blog and I’m certainly going to come back and visit regularly.
By the way Carlee I quite like your idea of no school on Monday & Friday!
What do you think Ms Hines?
Hello from Saskatchewan Canada!
I think that its great that you all are thinking of ways to make the world a better place! I try to remember to recycle, shut off the lights when leaving the room, and to share my smile with people I do not even know. Here is my way of sharing my smile with you all.
Since I will be working with your classroom for the next couple of months I wanted to tell you a little bit about myself and I thought that a blog post would be the best way to do it! Please see my blog: (http://greetingsfromcanada.wordpress.com) to learn about me and tell me a little about you!

Hello Class!
I am another one of your mentors from Canada. I am just wondering how your month of trying to change the world went? Did you stick to your plan? How did it go? Are you still following your plan.
